Is the level ok knowledge acquirement and teaching similar with other occidental universities?
Many of the professors have done their PhD and taught in Western countries. They are able to speak English fluently and are highly qualified in each of their domain.
The number of students per academic year does not exceed 50. Moreover the professors are always open to questions and, one can see the professors after the course or in their respective office.
Nevertheless, the courses are distributed in a different manner than in most of the Western countries. In most countries, the academic year is shared in two semesters, with an exam at the end of each. In the University of Split, the subjects are spread through out the year. Thereby, one will have to study for a subject (Biology, Physiology, Anatomy etc...) and at the end of that period of time will have an exam, this is called a "block" system.
For example, in Anatomy a continuous assessment of the knowledge is held: 4 exams (2 written, 1 practical, and an oral) within a period of two months and a half.
USSM has working relationships with medical schools and hospitals in the U.S. and Canada, including Wisconsin and University of Ottawa.
Note: Students have 4 opportunities to pass each exam within the school year, as is standard at most European medical schools.
